“In the present study, we investigated the hepatoprotective effects of schisandrin B (Sch B) and green tea polyphenols (GrTP), two natural antioxidants, against Hg hepatotoxicity. Fifty-six rats were randomly divided into four groups of fourteen animals in each group: control group, Hg-treated group, Sch B pretreated group, and GrTP pretreated group. HgCl2 injection increased Hg accumulation, pathological and ultrastructural injury, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level, alanine transaminase (ALT) level, apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) level, glutathione (GSH) level, and 123 malondialdehyde (MDA) level. HgCl2 injection decreased glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities.
