“Background: Status epilepticus (SE) is a neurological emergency condition. Intravenous phenobarbital (PB) is recommended for refractory SE treatment. However, intravenous PB is unavailable in Thailand. Enteral PB has been shown to be effective in SE children.

Methods: In adult SE patients, the efficacy of enteral PB as an adjunctive therapy has been reported. This is a case series of adult SE patients who were treated with enteral PB at Khon Kaen University Hospital, Thailand. The clinical features and clinical outcomes Smoothened Agonist are reported.

Results: There were six patients; five patients had convulsive SE, and one patient had nonconvulsive SE. All patients received PB enterally, at dosages of 900 mg initially and repeated doses of 900 mg as needed. This was gradually reduced to a maintenance dosage of 180 mg/day. Three out of six patients were completely controlled,

whereas the other three patients were partially controlled. Three out of six patients were seizure-free after the initial loading dose of PB. No adverse effects were found in this study.

Conclusion: In adult patients, enteral PB may be effective as an add-on for refractory SE therapy.”
“The photoluminescence properties of Bi3+/Eu3+ doped YBO3 phosphors under 147, 168, 185, 222, and 262 nm excitation were studied in this paper. The sensitization luminescence of Eu3+ by Bi3+ was demonstrated and a useful concentration scope, which is 0.05-0.25 https://www.selleckchem.com/products/tpx-0005.html mol %, for Bi3+ doped into YBO3: Eu3+ as candidate of plasma display panel red phosphor was optimized. The relative emission intensity of Bi3+ ions occupying C-3 sites in YBO3 crystal increases gradually with Bi3+ concentration increasing, while the emission of Bi3+ occupying S-6 sites decreases because of energy transfer from S-6 sites to C-3 sites. The peak of emission band changes from

295 to 320 nm as Bi3+ concentration increases from 0.1 to 0.25 mol %. Therefore, 0.25 mol % is the critical concentration for Bi3+ ions to transfer their absorption energy between signaling pathway different sites at room temperature. As a result, the luminescence of YBO3: Bi3+, Eu3+ decreases as Bi3+ concentration increases further. (C) 2009 American Institute of Physics. [DOI: 10.1063/1.3053689]“
“The prevalence of the metabolic syndrome has increased worldwide over the past few years. Sympathetic nervous system overactivity is a key mechanism leading to hypertension in patients with the metabolic syndrome. Sympathetic activation can be triggered by reflex mechanisms as arterial baroreceptor impairment, by metabolic factors as insulin resistance, and by dysregulated adipokine production and secretion from visceral fat with a mainly permissive role of leptin and antagonist role of adiponectin.
